The United Nations has condemned the killing of three staff members of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Sudan. The workers were killed in an ambush while delivering aid in the country’s western region of Darfur.

In a statement, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his condolences and called for those responsible to be brought to justice. He also emphasized the importance of protecting humanitarian workers who risk their lives to assist vulnerable communities.

The WFP has been working in Sudan for decades, providing food assistance to millions of people affected by conflict and displacement. The organization has called for an immediate investigation into the attack and for measures to be taken to ensure the safety of aid workers in the region.

The killing of humanitarian workers is a serious violation of international law and undermines the efforts of the international community to provide much-needed assistance to vulnerable communities. It is also a reminder of the challenges faced by aid workers in conflict zones around the world.

The situation in Darfur has been volatile for many years, with sporadic outbreaks of violence and displacement. The UN has been working with the government of Sudan and other partners to address the root causes of the conflict and to provide assistance to those affected.

In light of this latest attack, it is crucial that all parties to the conflict in Darfur respect international humanitarian law and ensure the safety of aid workers. The UN and its partners remain committed to delivering life-saving assistance to the people of Sudan and will continue to work towards a peaceful and sustainable solution to the conflict.
