UN General Assembly announces 15 March International Day to Combat Islamophobia

The UN General Assembly embraced, by agreement on Tuesday, a goal pronouncing 15 March as International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The Resolution was presented by Pakistan in the interest of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It denotes the day when a shooter entered two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 51 casualties, and harming 40 others.

Officially presenting the Resolution, Pakistan’s UN Envoy, Munir Akram, said Islamophobia has turned into a “reality” that is “multiplying in a few regions of the planet.”

“Such demonstrations of segregation, antagonism, and savagery towards Muslims — people and networks — establish grave infringement of their basic liberties, and disregard their opportunity of religion and conviction,” Akram said in the General Assembly Hall.

“It is especially disturbing nowadays, for it has arisen as another type of bigotry described by xenophobia, negative profiling, and generalizing of Muslims,” he added.

The goal perceives “with profound concern” what it said is a “general ascent in cases of separation, prejudice, and viciousness, no matter what the entertainers, coordinated against individuals from numerous strict and different networks.”
